A Little India in the Place We Call Home!
Over the years, our homes have slowly filled with little pieces of India—wooden décor, brass accents, colorful textiles, and those little things that somehow make a space feel familiar. Some came from trips to India, family gifted some, and some took a little searching to find.
But lately, I’ve noticed something that makes me smile:
Made-in-India décor, sweets, and more are showing up more often locally on the shelves of Walmart, Target, World Market, HomeGoods, Ross, Safeway, Costco, Fred Meyer, and other American stores. What once required a trip to India or a visit to a specialty store is now becoming part of everyday shopping.

And then there are the Diwali Forever stamps—another little reminder of how our traditions and culture have found a place on the other side of the globe in such unique ways.

For those of us living away from our birth country, these things are more than décor or postage stamps. They carry memories, colors, traditions, and a sense of belonging. Maybe that’s the beautiful part of living between two worlds. We don’t have to leave one behind to make a home in another. We bring pieces of it with us, share them, and watch them become part of the place we now call home.
A brass diya on a shelf.
A familiar pattern on a cushion.
A Diwali stamp traveling across the country.
Little pieces of India, making their way into American homes—and quietly telling the story of how we're building our home away from home.
